Cristina, mother of a newborn baby, is found in a coma after a domestic fight. The baby is nowhere to be found.
The first to be questioned is the unwed mother's ex-boyfriend, Rinaldi. He says he knows nothing about Cristina's accident nor the whereabouts of the baby. In an attempt to help Rinaldi and find |  | the baby, Don Matteo asks about the baby at the hospital.
However, there is no record of the birth.
While looking through the list of babies to be baptized, Don Matteo and the Bishop notice something strange. A couple by the name Bolzeni request the baptism of their newborn son, although the woman is known to be sterile. | |
