	An anonymous letter causes a respected man to attempt suicide. The victim's daughter and Marshal Cecchini's eldest daughter are inseparable friends but after the dramatic event something in their relationship has changed for the worse. While the Carabinieri try to discover any enemies the man may have had, Don Matteo tries to calm the troubled situation caused by other anonymous accusatory letters appearing around town. The solution to the case is a comment on family values and the ability of parents to communicate with their children.
