A man is attacked and injured in his own home in front of
his wife. While the Carabinieri investigate the case, another family announces the
disappearance of their son, Bruno. This case seems to be resolved when it's discovered
that Camilla has been hiding in the parish house a boy on the run. But, instead, the
case only becomes more complicated: the boy Camilla was protecting is not Bruno, and
he is so frightened, he refuses to say who he his. Where did he come from? From what
is he running? What is the link between the two cases?

During a pastry making competition held in Gubbio, that has
brought together the most famous pastry makers in Italy, a young businessman who is
sponsoring the contest, is poisoned by a piece of cake laced with strychnine. The Carabinieri
investigation focuses almost immediately on the ex-fiancé, beneficiary of a life insurance
policy worth millions. Thanks to Don Matteo's help, it's discovered that the businessman's
death was an accident: the real victim should have been one of the chefs in the competition.
It is in a secret recipe that they find the solution to the case.
