Giulio Base was born in Torino on December 6, 1964, but currently resides in Rome. He is married to the publicist Tiziana Rocca, and together they have one son. He has a degree in the History of Cinema from the university La Sapienza of Rome, is a graduate of Gassman's Bottega, and is currently working on his second degree, this time in Theology, from the Institutum Patristicum Augustinianum in the Vatican City. Professionally, he began as a theatrical writer and actor. His debut as a film director was in 1991 with the film "Crack" in which he also appeared, which is a habit of his, interpreting a character in many of his own films. As an actor, however, he has been in two very important films by Nanni Moretti: "Il porta borse" in 1991, and "Caro Diario" in 1994. It's worth mentioning that a film he wrote and directed in 1994, "Poliziotti", won the award for Best Director at the "Festival du Cinéma des Monde Latins". Besides work in cinema, he has also written and directed very successful films for television,
two of which are "Padre Pio - Tra cielo e terra" in 2000, and "Maria Goretti" in 2003.
In 2004, he is credited as the director of 12 episodes in the fourth series of "Don Matteo", and continuing his tradition, he plays a role in one episode.
