Author

Born in Rome in 1959, Alessandra Caneva, scriptwriter, story editor, story-teller, works as an editorial consultant for Lux Vide and as an artistic-literary consultant for Rai Fiction. Some of her books include: La congiura (1991), La notte della Stella (1995), Il Fiore Nero (1999). She has developed and written many scripts for television shows, in particular: Lourdes (together with V. Messori and M. Falcone), Padre Pio (with F. Bernini) directed by Giulio Base and starring Michele Placido, winner of the TV award in 2001, Antonio da Padova (with F. Muraca and U. Marino). She is also co-author of scripts for "Don Matteo II" and "Don Matteo III".

On the occasion of the presentation of the book I've written, that expands the stories of the TV series "Don Matteo", all I can do is thank those who have given me this opportunity.
To transform into a narrative the stories behind the TV episodes has made me realize how rich the character of don Matteo is with humane values and spirituality, a character invented by a group of writers and enriched by the moving portrayal given by Terence Hill.
I'm certain that don Matteo, parish priest of a church in Gubbio, will become a "classic" just like other fictional characters who have survived the test of time.
With the book that I've written, I've tried to put in black and white the hidden potential that is not always able to emerge in a television production: the feelings, the interior conflicts, the regrets, the attraction that evil, greed, and unruly passions can have for the human soul.
I hope I've succeeded in what I set out to do, and that the book is read. The first two episodes are about existential arguments that will make both adults and children reflect. The book uses the playfulness of the TV dialogues to discuss important topics concerning our human existence.
