I believe that it is not an exaggeration to say that Gubbio's town administration and all of Gubbio will never be able to fully convey their gratitude to "Lux Vide" and to Ettore and Luca Bernabei for having chosen our town as the setting for the television series "Don Matteo", which begins a glorious fourth series this year. A TV series is always primarily an economic and media investment, but I don't think I'm wrong in saying that in this case, it has gone far beyond the usual exchange of services required. Slowly a relationship has developed, one that is human and affectionate, between the creators of the series and Gubbio and her inhabitants, who have been involved in so many ways in the production, starting with the Stills Photographer Pietro Biraschi, and ending with the extras and the artisans who have contributed their skills. The images of the town, of her alleyways, her streets, the magical atmosphere of an area rich with possibilities, have slowly appeared before our amazed eyes, and it has been a discovery for many Eugubini, an amazing education, that will remain with us forever. Following the story of each episode, with the suspense, the irony, and the entertainment, created by expert and capable scriptwriters, we've entered into the lives of the various characters, like Don Matteo, Marshal Cecchini, Captain Anceschi, the housekeeper Natalina and all the other characters who have each contributed their artistic talents to the success of this series. The real characters, with Terence hill in first place, to Nino Frassica, to Flavio Insinna, to Natalie Guettą, have become for everyone "Eugubini", natives, and they are considered by now to be part of our family, invited to parties and to ceremonies. I would like to stress the enormous import "Don Matteo" has had in the promotion of Gubbio, the many testimonials that have come from all directions in response to this important means that is television when it is used in an intelligent way, as Ettore Bernabei and his colleagues have done for many years now, to create quality productions for Italy, and the whole world.
