Don Matteo 2 is the television directorial debut of Leone Pompucci, a forty-year-old director from Rome. He debuted as a film director in '93 with "Mille bolle blu", a comedy that was selected for competition at the Venice Film Festival, and then he directed in '95 Diego Abatantuono and Paolo Villaggio in "Camerieri" (Waiters). In 2000 he signed on to direct "Il Grande Botto", a bittersweet comedy with Claudio Amendola, Carlo Buccirosso, Emilio Solfrizzi e Marco Messeri.
