	Sergio, Angela's boyfriend, is run over and killed by a hit-and-run driver. After a very difficult period, Angela puts her life back together and, thanks to Don Matteo, she joins the town musical group. But not everyone seems to appreciate her presence. Jealousy and revenge cause some unknown person to threaten her, pushing her to want to leave the group and the town. The Carabinieri think that the guilty party is a young man; a member of the musical ensemble, and the person who caused the terrible accident that took Sergio's life. But Don Matteo understands intuitively that the truth lies elsewhere.

	Benito Lippi, one of the men who carry the statue of the town's patron saint in processions, is bitten by a snake during a procession. He remains in a coma and will die if the antidote is not found in time. Unfortunately, they discover that he was bitten by a dangerous snake, the Corallo, originally from Asia. Who could have put the snake in the victim's clothes? Someone noticed a Philippino approach the man before he collapsed. Following this lead, the Carabinieri Anceschi and Cecchini arrest a young Philippino man fired recently by the victim. But Don Matteo believes it to be improbable that he is the guilty party.
