	By chance, Nerino, while taking a walk, falls into what turns out to be a priceless Etruscan tomb. In the time it takes to notify the authorities, the treasure that was in the tomb has disappeared... Immediately the investigation and public opinion points to Lanza, a local, surly and gruff tomb-raider. Don Matteo forms a bond with the man and becomes convinced of his innocence. Suspicions then fall on Todini, the local representative of the Superintendent of Fine Arts. In an exciting climax, or heroes will succeed in thwarting the theft of the priceless Etruscan treasure.

	A fire breaks out in the woods surrounding the town. The Carabinieri suspect a young boy, Fabio Savini, who is known to have committed other pranks with his gang of friends. The initial evidence causes him to be brought in for questioning. He is attracted by the mass-media attention and the title he has been given, the "baby-pyromaniac", so he pleads guilty, upsetting his well-known attorney father. But Don Matteo does not believe the boy's confession, and will succeed in convincing the boy to confide in him the desperate pain that made him lie to attract his father's attention. Following leads that are anything but easy, the Carabinieri and Don Matteo track down the real guilty party in a 'fiery' ending.
