	A famous gourmet, Temistocle Rebecchini, is found dead. Initially suspicions fall on the Bagnetti brothers, who after receiving an eviction notice from Rebecchini, threatened him. But Gerolamo, a mentally retarded homeless man, says he witnessed the murder and accuses a prestigious restaurant owner, Tiziana Mordelli, recently featured in a famous gourmet food magazine. Don Matteo becomes convinced she is innocent and tries to discover the truth about the case.

	This time the roles are reversed: the Marshal (Warrant Officer) Cecchini is accused of a crime. According to the conclusive evidence, the Marshal appears to be a player in the trade of illicit drugs, who for a long time has been working both sides of the law. Captain Anceschi and Don Matteo will discover that someone, to avenge an arrest made years earlier, has organized this deadly trap for Cecchini. In this episode the carabineer's colonel is played by the director Leone Pompucci!
